This September, the streets of Playa del Carmen will once again hum with saxophones, bass lines, and the warm buzz of an audience caught up in the magic of live jazz. The Playa del Carmen Jazz Fest 2025 is back for its second edition, promising an even richer blend of music, culture, and community. From September 15 to October 5, the city will transform into a stage where local talent and international stars meet in harmony.

A Stage for the World, in the Heart of Playa

Centered at the Teatro de la Ciudad, the festival opens its doors to a lineup as vibrant as the Caribbean itself. Legendary jazz educator Joan Chamorro will share the bill with the energetic Big Band Jazz de Cancún and the youthful flair of the Big Band Juvenil de la Universidad Explayarte. Across three weeks, audiences will be treated to powerful performances by the Diego Maroto Quartet, the Obed Orozco Trío, and the sultry voice of Karen Souza—each night offering a unique sonic journey.

Silent Nights, Loud Emotions

One of this year’s most intriguing additions is the “Silent Concerts” series, happening on September 27 and 28. Imagine stepping into a space where the stage is alive, but instead of amplifiers, you slip on high-fidelity headphones. Every note feels intimate, as if the musicians were playing just for you. Artists like Meen Green and Oasis Jazz Collective will guide audiences through these immersive, almost secret performances.

More Than Music: A Learning Experience

Beyond the stage, the Playa del Carmen Jazz Fest 2025 doubles as an open classroom. Workshops will cover everything from jazz improvisation and music theory to masterclasses with Joan Chamorro himself, made possible through the Ibermúsicas program. Scholarships aim to make these opportunities accessible, ensuring that new generations can find their voice in the language of jazz.

Panels on the regional jazz scene, film screenings, and even a collectors’ market for vinyl, cassettes, and CDs add to the festival’s rich cultural tapestry.

For Explayarte Asociación Civil, the festival’s organizer, the goal is clear: build a lasting cultural platform in the Mexican Caribbean, one that not only entertains but also educates and connects. Free tickets for youth organizations and inclusive programming reflect a commitment to making jazz a shared community treasure.

Playa del Carmen Jazz Fest 2025 isn’t just an event—it’s a celebration of artistry, collaboration, and the power of music to unite strangers under one rhythm. Whether you’re a seasoned jazz enthusiast or a curious newcomer, September in Playa del Carmen offers a rare chance to be part of a story still being written—one note, one beat, one unforgettable night at a time.
